Question.2096 - Chapter One: 1) (a) Develop an original example of a manager going through the four function of management, and (b) explain why this is an example of each function, referencing the textbook or an online lecture. Type your answer for question #1a-b here. Be sure you answer all questions asked, and keep in mind the rubric you will be scored on. Your answers should be a few paragraphs long – I suggest one paragraph per function, therefore four paragraphs total. Chapter Four: 2) Pretend you are Nathan and read the following scenario and answer questions a-e below the scenario: Nathan Rosillo stared out his office window at the lazy curves and lush, green, flower-lined banks of the Dutch Valley River. He’d grown up near here, and he envisioned the day that his children would enjoy the river as he had as a child. But now his own company might make that a risky proposition. Nathan is a key product developer at Chem-Tech Corporation, an industry leader. Despite its competitive position, Chem-Tech experienced several quarters of dismal financial performance. Nathan and his team developed a new lubricant product that the company sees as the turning point in its declining fortunes. Top executives are thrilled that they can produce the new product at a significant cost savings because of recent changes in environmental regulations. Regulatory agencies loosened requirements on reducing and recycling wastes, which means that Chem-Tech can now release waste directly into the Dutch Valley River. Nathan is as eager as anyone to see Chem-Tech survive this economic downturn, but he doesn’t think this route is the way to do it. He expressed his opposition regarding the waste dumping to both the plant manager and his direct supervisor, Martin Feldman. Martin has always supported Nathan, but this time was different. The plant manager, too, turned a deaf ear. “We’re meeting government standards,” he’d said. “It’s up to them to protect the water. It’s up to us to make a profit and stay in business.” Frustrated and confused, Nathan turned away from the window, his prime office view mocking his inability to protect the river he loved. He knew that the manufacturing vice president was visiting the plant next week. Maybe if he talked with her, she would agree that the decision to dump waste materials in the river was ethically and socially irresponsible. But if she didn’t, he would be skating on thin ice. His supervisor had already accused him of not being a team player. Maybe he should just be a passive bystander—after all, the company isn’t breaking any laws. (a) What would you (as Nathan) do in this scenario? (b) How would this behavior (in answer “a”) be categorized related to the different ethical decision-making frameworks listed in section 4-3. (c) Explain why this is an example of this type of ethical decision-making framework, referencing the textbook (section 4-3). (d) Identify your “go-to” ethical decision-making framework from the frameworks listed in section 4-3. Review your week four reflection as you have already identified this. (e) Why is this your “go-to” ethical decision-making framework? Type your answer for question #2a-e here. Be sure you answer all questions asked, and keep in mind the rubric you will be scored on. This means 1) answer the question 2) explain the “why” and 3) give an original example.Your answers should be a few paragraphs long. (Note: Avoid using Transactional Leader in your answer for this question, as this is generally seen as a theory which produces negative outcomes for subordinates). i. Identify three major takeaways/guiding principles which will guide your leaderships style in your career. 1. TIP: DO NOT simply list a leadership theory, as this is not a guiding principle. Instead, go back and read about the different leadership theories, and within each section of the text about different leadership theories, you will find different guiding principles you can use. For example, section 11-2d talks about Interactive Leadership, which is the theory. Instead, if you read about the theory of Interactive Leadership in section 11-2d, they talk about how collaboration is an important piece of Interactive Leadership. Therefore, collaboration could be a guiding principle. ii. Explain why each of the three major takeaways/guiding principles resonate with you as a leader. iii. Give an example of what each major takeaway/guiding principle could look like in the workplace setting if you were a manager applying the guiding principles. iv. Please reference where each of the three major takeaways/guiding principles came from within our chapter 11 content (specifically highlight what leadership theory the major takeaway/guiding principle came from). 1.
