Question.4907 - What is emotion?It has been argued that humans have 'meta awareness' that animals do not have and that our emotional experiences are distinct from animals because of this meta cognition (i.e., thinking about thinking) that allows us a deeper understanding or experience of what we are feeling. This is an area at the leading edge of science as work on meta cognition in animals is ongoing. In these gaps, our understanding must be filled in with predictions and expectations. Here, share how you interpret the information we have on animal emotion and meta cognition/consciousness. Do you expect that future work will show that animals experience emotion in the same way as humans? Do you think such a question can even be answered, scientifically?
