Question.4520 - Cultural beliefs about animalsThere are animals we consider family members, those we eat, those we fear, and those we treat as pests. Many of these relationships are the result of thousands of years of co-existence. Coming into this course we all have beliefs about animals that were enculturated - things we learned from our families and societal representation of animals. Share one belief you had about animals when you started this course and something you have learned that either challenges or reinforces that belief. For example, when I started by graduate degree in Animal Behavior I didn't want to work on insects because I didn't think they showed complex social behavior. Now I realize that insects would have been amazing systems for studying social casts, group decision-making, social learning, and parental care.
