Question.3682 - Research Methods Online Project Draft 1 - Introduction Draft DISCLAIMER: For this assignment, you can use generative artificial intelligence (gen AI) to EDIT your writing ONLY. If you choose to use gen AI, as part of the material you submit with this assignment, you will submit a copy of ALL interactions you have with the gen AI program including all prompts and responses, unedited. The parts of this assignment that I ask you to write must be written by you and not by AI. I reserve the right to meet with any student who I suspect has broken this rule and ask them about their responses in order to confirm the facts. At the time this assignment was created, the gen AI programs listed in the lectures of this course were free to use. However, the AI technology landscape is quickly changing and what may have been free to use yesterday, is no longer free today. You are under NO obligation to purchase or license an AI program for the completion of this assignment. If you run into a paywall on any of these sites, please contact the instructor immediately for guidance. I will be using TurnItIn to check for plagiarism in this document. Instructions The complete instructions for this assignment are in the Research Methods Project Handbook, but I will give you some brief guidance here. Drafts are not due this week. Check Canvas for the due date. Your Introduction should include at least 4 paragraphs. 1. The first paragraph should answer the question, “What is the general purpose of your study? (What are the reasons for studying this topic?).” This is much like an introductory paragraph to an argument essay. You should talk about the general purpose of your topic of choice and how it impacts a specific group. You do not have to refer to other scientific articles in this paragraph, so I shouldn’t see lines like “Previous studies have shown…” or “Studies suggest that…” However, if you want to bring in some statistics to back up your claims, make sure you cite your sources and put the reference in the Reference Page. 2. The second and third paragraphs, and more if you need them, are your literature review. As we talked about in the lectures, this is NOT a detailed summary of what other people said. This is you talking about the variables you are investigating and using other people’s research (remember to cite) to back up YOUR claims. You should have at least two variables that you are investigating, so you can talk about each one in their own, separate paragraphs. You should also talk about any other constructs (concepts) that are important for the reader to understand as they read your paper. You will need to cite at least 5 sources in this section. 3. The last paragraph is your study rationale. What you write here should answer the question of “How will your study extend current knowledge on the topic? (Why is your research important?).” This paragraph should end with your hypothesis statement. Your hypothesis should be in the form of a prediction. With the hypothesis statement you are predicting what the outcome of your experiment will be. Make an educated prediction about the outcome of your experiment.
