Question.5355 - M6: Discussion - Analytical Reflection and New Data Collection Methodology ExplorationModule6Discussion - Analytical Reflection and New Data Collection Methodology ExplorationAssignment DescriptionFor this assignment, you will reflect on the data that you have collected thus far and then you will collect data through one of the following methods that you have read about:surveyschecklistsrating scalesinventoriesmappingvisual recordings or photography (*do not take a video or photograph of individuals in a way that identifies them)documents (e.g., agendas for staff meetings, student work, curricula, school vision and mission)administrative data (e.g., performance data on standardized or class assessments, discipline data, attendance data)This week, you will decide which data collection method listed above would best inform your research question. (You are supposed to be exploring a third method--you may not conduct an observation or interview.)I. Additional Data Collection. Reread Dana chapter three on various data collection methods. Decide which data collection method (of those listed above). Collect data using this method ( For approximately 30 minutes) to inform your research question. Reflecting on the reading, write up the following:Develop a clear rationale for the method you are using including details from the readings about that data collection method: How will this method help you investigate your research question? II. Upload the data into the discussion either as an attachment or by pasting into the discussionIII. Analytical Reflection/Memo. For this part of the assignment, you are essentially writing a draft of one finding for your final paper. Read through your transcribed interview transcript observation and other data that you have collected (included additional data you collect this week). Identify important themes that you see emerging in your data and highlight examples of text in your document that reflect this theme or category. This process is described as coding data and ensures that you are being methodical and considering all of your data in developing your findings. For example, in my study of teacher turnover I might highlight the following data and label it school professional context: a teacher describes a lack of support from administrators in accessing appropriate materials in an interview, another teacher describes being berated in the teacher evaluation process in another interview, a selection of an observation that documents teacher's frustration about a new curricular initiative and survey data that indicates that 90 percent of teachers would seek employment elsewhere if they could. I would highlight all of these sections of data and label them SPC or school professional context. Write a quick summary of one theme that is emerging from your data collection so far. Then, reflect on what perspectives or sources of evidence that might help you to answer your research questions (and write the final paper that is coming up soon). Here are two sample findings. Note that the author's use examples of raw data to back up the points that they make:Sample Finding: Lack of Training for Teacher's AidesSample Finding: School Media CenterIV. Consult with the other members of your Inquiry Group to set a date for the upcoming assignment and assign roles Facilitate Collaborative Data Analysis.Format Requirements:Either paste your data into the discussion or attach your data to the file. Please double space if relevant for your data.Include a heading that provides basic information about the data you collected.Do not include identifying information about any individuals. You may want to give individuals pseudonyms.
